The fabric for Lutron horizontal sheer blinds, in 2 and 3 inch vanes
Palazzo is the fabric of Lutron's Sivoia horizontal sheer blinds: soft fabric vanes suspended between two sheer facings that tilt open for the view and closed for privacy. It comes in 2-inch and 3-inch vane sizes, each as a light-filtering vane (Snow, Ivory, Cocoa Bean, Black) or a room-darkening vane (Arctic Ice, Eggshell, Cream, plus Cocoa Bean and Black in 3-inch), 114 inches wide, 100% polyester, PVC-free and GREENGUARD certified.
Lutron's care code allows professional ultrasonic cleaning as well as dusting, vacuuming and spot cleaning.
What Palazzo does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
Palazzo suits the window that has to do different things through the day: a front room on a busy street, a dining room over a side yard, a bedroom where the morning light is wanted and the evening headlights are not. Vane size changes character more than performance, with the 3 inch opening to a wider gap and the 2 inch giving finer steps of tilt. Light-filtering vanes for living rooms, room-darkening for bedrooms.
Privacy
Privacy here is set by the tilt rather than by the cloth, and that is the reason to choose it over a roller. Vanes open, the room is visible; vanes closed, in daylight, it is not. At night that changes. With lamps on and the vanes shut, the light-filtering version still shows movement through the sheer facings, and the room-darkening version shows much less but glows at the top and bottom.
Glare control
Tilting is the glare control: part-closed vanes cut the beam while keeping some view, which no roller can do. Fully closed, the sheer facings still carry a soft light into the room. A media room is better on the room-darkening vane, and only the 3 inch version offers it in Cocoa Bean and Black; the 2 inch card is three pale colours. A low sun in line with the window means shutting the vanes.
Limitations
The vanes close but they do not seal, so this is not a blackout treatment in any colourway, and a bedroom that has to be properly dark needs blackout shades as well. Width stops at 114 inches with no seaming, so a wide slider becomes two blinds. Soft vanes also dislike moving air: an open window or a ceiling fan will set them swinging.

A horizontal sheer blind is the treatment for the window that needs to do three things: soften the light, give privacy at the tilt of a vane, and open fully to the view. In South Florida that is the street-facing living room in a Fort Lauderdale neighbourhood or a Coral Gables house, where a roller would be all or nothing. The 3-inch vane suits tall windows; the 2-inch vane, smaller ones.

Are horizontal sheer blinds motorized?
Yes. On Lutron Sivoia they raise, lower and tilt from a Pico remote, a keypad or the app, and they run in scenes with the rest of a Lutron system. See our sheer shades page for the manual and other motorized options.

Lutron publishes a maximum usable fabric width of 114 inches for Palazzo. Wider openings are covered with two shades on one headrail, programmed to move together. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.
