A motorized curtain track - or motorized drapery rod - is not a product you pick off a shelf. A drapery track system is exactly that: a system. The right motor depends on how much your drapery weighs, how long the run is, whether power can reach the track, which control system the house uses, and how quiet the room needs to be. Choose wrong and you get a track that struggles, a motor you can hear over the television, or a battery you are recharging far too often.
We specify the motor after we know the opening. As a certified Somfy Expert and SDN Specialist, we install Somfy Glydea and Irismo systems alongside an Essential tier for straightforward projects - then fabricate the drapery to that track in our own workroom, install it, and program the controls. What does a motorized curtain track cost?
It depends on track length, motor tier, heading and controls - hardware alone spans a wide range before fabric, fabrication and installation. Do I need an electrician?
Not always. Somfy Glydea RTS and DCT motors ship with a 10 ft cord and standard plug, so an existing outlet within reach is often enough. Hardwired versions and concealed installations do need electrical work - ideally planned at framing. Battery Irismo needs no power at all.
Can a motorized track hold heavy drapery?
Yes. A single Somfy Glydea ULTRA 60 carries up to 132 lbs (60 kg), and paired motors carry up to 264 lbs across 72 ft. We calculate the weight of your actual fabric, lining and interlining before specifying.
Will it work with my smart home?
Somfy integrates with Control4, Crestron, Savant, ELAN, URC, RTI, Alexa and Google Home through TaHoma. We coordinate directly with your integrator and hand over a documented, programmed system.
Can you motorize my existing draperies?
Often yes - if the heading is compatible and the fabric weight is within range. We will inspect and tell you honestly whether it is worth it or whether new panels serve you better.
How long does installation take?
Most single-track installations are a few hours including programming. Building-wide or multi-room projects are scheduled around your other trades - see the trade program.
