RadioRA 2 vs. RadioRA 3 vs. HomeWorks vs. myRoom: Lutron Systems Explained
August 7, 2026 · Automation · By David Martineau
Lutron does not make one system; it makes a ladder of them, and choosing the wrong rung is the most common mistake we see in plans that arrive on our desk. As a certified Lutron dealer, here is the whole family in plain English - Caseta, RadioRA 2, RadioRA 3, HomeWorks, and myRoom - and how to pick.
Caseta: the entry point
Caseta is Lutron's retail-friendly system - dimmers, Pico remotes, and Serena shades on the same rock-solid Clear Connect radio the big systems use. It is limited in scale (one bridge, modest device counts) but perfect for a condo or a first taste of automated shading. Everything learned here carries upward.
RadioRA 2: the workhorse of the last decade
For years, RadioRA 2 was the answer for whole-home lighting and shading without a construction project: wireless, reliable, roughly 100 devices, professional programming. Thousands of South Florida homes run it happily today. It is now a legacy platform - still supported, still serviceable (we adjust and extend RA2 homes regularly), but new projects should look one rung up.
RadioRA 3: the current sweet spot
RadioRA 3 is RA2's successor and the system we specify most for renovations and mid-size homes: a more powerful processor, the elegant Sunnata keypad family, easier scaling, and native support for the full Lutron shading line - Serena, Triathlon, and wired Sivoia QS alike. Wireless installation, professional results, sensible cost. If you are unsure where you fit, you probably fit here.
HomeWorks: the flagship
HomeWorks QSX is Lutron's estate platform: effectively unlimited scale, wired reliability where it counts, Palladiom keypads and shading on show, and native Ketra tunable lighting. It integrates deeply with Crestron, Control4, and Savant. This is the system behind our oceanfront estate project - when the home is exceptional, this is the specification.
myRoom: Lutron for hospitality
myRoom is the guestroom platform - lighting, shading, and temperature per room with occupancy intelligence, built for hotels, resorts, and condo-hotels. For developers and hospitality operators (a growing part of our project work), it delivers the Lutron experience at building scale with central management. If you operate rooms rather than live in them, this is your rung.
How shading fits every rung
The beautiful part of Lutron's ladder: our fabrication does not change. The same couture roller, drape, or sheer rides Caseta, RA3, or HomeWorks - what changes is the control brain and keypads. That is why we always start with the windows and the life lived around them, then match the platform. Our Lutron vs. Somfy comparison covers the cross-brand question, and the price calculator gives budgetary numbers by system.
The honest recommendation
Condo or single rooms: Caseta or Serena alone. Renovating a house: RadioRA 3. Building or renovating an estate: HomeWorks. Operating a hotel: myRoom. Living with a healthy RA2 system: keep it, extend it, and migrate when a renovation invites it. And in every case - talk to us first; matching the rung to the home is exactly what a free consultation is for.
