The one style Phifer labels PVC-Free, with a flocked backing

SheerWeave 7001 is the blackout Phifer marks PVC-Free in the composition itself: 100% polyester with an acrylic flocked backing. It weighs 11.9 oz per square yard, measures 0.023 inches thick and comes in two widths, 94 and 118 inches. Every colourway publishes Tv 0, solar reflectance of 71% and absorptance of 29%, with a solar heat gain coefficient of 0.23 behind single glazing and 0.19 behind insulating glass with a high-performance coating. Phifer does not recommend railroading it, so 118 inches is the single-shade limit.

Eleven colours run from White, Birch, Sand and Merino through Mushroom, Canvas and Cocoa to Graphite, Onyx, Canyon and Porpoise, which is a broader and warmer card than most of the 7000 series. The fire listing is one of the fuller ones among the blackouts: California Title 19, NFPA 701 TM#1, NFPA 101 Class A, IBC Section 803.1.1 Class A, BS 5867 Part 2 Type B, CAN/ULC-S 109 and CAN/CGSB2-4.162-M80. Certifications are GREENGUARD Gold, RoHS, REACH and the ANSI/WCMA A100.1 lead-content standard; there is no Microban additive on this style.

Best Use & Limits

What SheerWeave 7001 does on your glass, and what it does not

Best use

A bedroom, a nursery or a media room where the shade has to look finished on both faces, which is what the flocked backing gives you at the window side. Two rolls, 94 and 118 inches, so an ordinary bedroom window need not be cut from the wide cloth. Every colourway publishes 71% solar reflectance, so a dark room-side colour on west glass costs nothing in heat.

Privacy

Total, day and night, in all eleven colours. White S50 and Porpoise S60 behave identically at the glass, so this card is a decorating decision rather than a privacy one. The limit is the shade, not the cloth: on a roller the fabric runs narrower than the opening and light passes down both edges, which tells a neighbour the room is occupied even though nothing in it is visible.

Glare control

Absolute, in the useful sense and the unhelpful one. Nothing passes, so a projector wall or a television has no competition from the window at any hour of the day. The only light left in a finished room comes from the edges of the shade, which is why a media room gets side channels rather than a bigger shade. For daytime work at a desk, this fabric leaves you with lamps.

Limitations

Phifer publishes no acoustic value for Style 7001, so do not count it as part of a media room's sound treatment. There is no light-filtering version of it and no view of any kind through it. Railroading is not recommended, so 118 inches is the widest single shade and a slider wall past that comes out as a pair. Daytime privacy with the view kept needs a screen in front.

Tv = visible light transmitted, Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed, in percent, as published by Phifer for the fabric on its own. SHGC single = solar heat gain coefficient of the fabric behind single 1/4 in clear glass (1/8 in where that is what Phifer publishes), SHGC insul. = behind 1 in insulating glass with a high-performance coating (1/2 in clear where published). Exterior SunTex and SunScreen figures are for the fabric installed outside the glass at a 30 degree profile angle. We bring the sample books to the consultation.

Where SheerWeave 7001 Blackout works here

When a client asks for a blackout with no vinyl by name, this is the answer, and the flocked backing means the room side and the window side both look finished. We use it in bedrooms and media rooms from Miami Beach to Boca Raton, usually in side channels, and the eleven-colour card is wide enough that it rarely forces a compromise with the wall colour.

Good to Know

SheerWeave 7001 Blackout: frequently asked

Why is this the only fabric labelled PVC-Free?

It is the one style whose published composition carries the label: 100% polyester with an acrylic flocked backing, PVC-Free. Several other Phifer fabrics publish compositions with no vinyl in them, including 8000, Infinity2, RE-USE and the rest of the polyester 7000 series, and we list them all on our PVC-free and recycled page.

Does it come in a light-filtering twin?

No. Unlike 7200R, 7300, 7400, 7700R and 7800, Style 7001 stands alone. Where a room needs a matched daytime layer we pair it with a solar screen on a dual roller or specify one of the R pairs instead.

How wide can a Phifer SheerWeave 7001 Blackout shade be?

Phifer publishes standard roll widths of 94" and 118" (238.8 cm and 300 cm) for SheerWeave 7001 Blackout, so a single shade can run to about 118 inches wide before a seam or a second shade is needed. A seam in a blackout shows as a line of light, so wider openings get two shades on one headrail programmed to move together. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.

Which shades can be made in SheerWeave 7001 Blackout?

SheerWeave 7001 Blackout is made up as roller shades and panel tracks. We source it directly from Phifer, so the same weave goes on Lutron, Somfy, Crestron or Vertilux motors or a manual chain, cut and finished in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.

Is SheerWeave 7001 Blackout PVC-free?

Phifer's published composition for SheerWeave 7001 Blackout is 100% Polyester with Acrylic Flocked Backing (PVC-Free): no vinyl and no PVC in the yarn or the coating, with GREENGUARD Gold, RoHS, REACH, ANSI/WCMA A100.1 lead content listed.

Can I see SheerWeave 7001 Blackout samples before ordering?

Yes. We keep the Phifer sample books in the Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and the Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150), and we bring the colours you shortlist to the in-home consultation so you can hold them against your glass in your own light.
