The pleat that built the trade
A pinch pleat - the French pleat - gathers fabric into fingers tacked by hand at the base, so the drape breaks into deep, regular folds and holds them for decades. Two-finger reads lighter and more contemporary; three-finger is the fuller, formal classic. Both are stitched, not clipped, in our workroom. Ask for pleated drapes, French pleats or a top-tacked Euro (Parisian) pleat - all are variations of the same hand-tacked construction we sew in-house.
Pinch pleats reward good construction: buckram headers that stay crisp, hand-tacked fingers that do not splay, lining and interlining that give the panel weight, and hems weighted so the fabric hangs plumb. That is the difference between drapery and curtains.

How a pinch pleat drapery is built in our workroom
Fullness first: 2 to 2.5 times the track width, so the panel breaks into deep folds instead of hanging thin. Then the header - a buckram-stiffened band the pleats are set into and hand-tacked at the base, two fingers for a lighter modern read or three for the formal classic. Lining carries the UV and gives the face fabric body; interlining, the soft layer between them, is the couture step that makes silk and linen hang like they should and quiets a glass-heavy room. Hems are weighted, seams are pattern-matched, and the panels are pressed and steamed before they leave.
Pinch pleat draperies in South Florida
Formal living and dining rooms in Coral Gables, Boca Raton's country-club estates and Palm Beach island are where pinch pleats belong, on decorative rods with rings or on a concealed track. Motorized on a Lutron or Somfy traversing track, they open a wall of glass at one press. For a wall of sliding doors or a modern interior, compare them with ripplefold draperies; for bedrooms, add a sewn-in blackout lining. Every panel is sewn in our own workroom in Fort Lauderdale.

What is interlining and do I need it?
A soft inner layer that adds body, insulation, and acoustics. On silk, linen, and any estate-scale drapery, it transforms how the panel hangs.
Can pinch pleats be motorized?
Yes - on a traversing track with a Lutron or Somfy motor.
How much fullness do pinch pleats need?
Typically 2x to 2.5x the track width. Less than 2x and the drape looks thin even when closed.
Pinch pleat or ripplefold?
Pinch pleat reads formal and traditional and works on rods; ripplefold reads modern, needs a track and stacks tighter. We show both in your own light.
How long do pinch pleats hold their shape?
Hand-tacked pleats set into a buckram header hold their folds for decades; clipped or glued pleats do not.
