A thin, dense fabric with a blackout that comes in black
Palette is a Gallery fabric in seven colours (Snow White, Blanc, Moth, Twill, Metal, Limestone, Blue Night): 100% polyester, light-filtering at under 1% openness, 96 inches wide, PVC-free. It is very thin (about 0.013 inches) and rolls to a small diameter, which suits shallow pockets and compact fascias.
Palette Blackout adds an eighth colour, Black, and is unusual in offering coloured backs (white, black, tan or grey) rather than a single white back, so the facade side can be matched to the building. Both versions are seamable, not railroadable.
What Palette does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
Standard windows and single doors, not slider walls. At 96 inches Palette is narrow for a designer roller cloth, so a wide opening becomes two or three shades before anything else is decided. The light-filtering face at under 1% openness suits bedrooms, studies and bathrooms. Palette Blackout goes behind it for the night, and its eighth colour, Black, exists for rooms that want no light bouncing anywhere.
Privacy
The light-filtering face at under 1% openness covers the room in daylight and shows silhouettes at night, like every cloth of its kind. The blackout back colours change nothing about that. A white, tan, grey, black or matching back is a decision about what the street sees of your building, not about what it can see through, since all of them are 0% openness.
Glare control
Under 1% openness on the light-filtering face means no direct beam and an even, flat light in the room. The colour then decides how bright the panel itself gets, with Snow White and Blanc glowing and Metal, Limestone and Blue Night holding more back. Lutron publishes no transmission figures for Palette, so where a monitor or a television is the whole point, sample the darker end before ordering.
Limitations
Check the certifications. Lutron publishes PVC-free and RoHS for both versions and nothing else, with no GREENGUARD, no Oeko-Tex and no fire rating. On a project with a materials schedule or a hotel specification, that rules Palette out and the commercial fabrics are where to look. Neither version gives a view, and 96 inches is the hard limit on a single shade.

The small roll diameter is the practical reason to choose Palette: recessed pockets in new construction and retrofit fascias where a thick blackout would not fit. Blue Night in a boy's room, Black in a home theater where the back can be black too.

Why would I want a black-backed blackout?
For a media room or a room behind dark glass, a black back stops any reflected light inside the room and makes the shade disappear from outside. Palette Blackout is one of the few designer blackouts that offers it.
How wide can a Lutron Palette shade be?
Lutron publishes a maximum usable fabric width of 96 inches for Palette. It can be seamed for wider openings, or two shades share one headrail and move together. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.
