Eight neutral honeycombs in single-cell, double-cell and room-darkening
Monaco is the neutral workhorse of Lutron's Honeycomb Essentials: 100% polyester, PVC-free, 96 inches wide, white-backed, at the lower end of Lutron's price scale, in eight colours (White, Satin, Shell, Cloud, Beige, Clay, Pebble, Carbon). It comes as a single-cell light-filtering (R-value 3.5), a double-cell light-filtering (R 3.6) and a single-cell room-darkening (R 4.3, with Tea replacing Beige).

What Monaco does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
Monaco is the neutral to specify when different windows in one house need different things from a honeycomb. Put the double-cell on the west and south glass that runs hot from mid-afternoon, the single-cell light-filtering everywhere the sun is not the problem, and the room-darkening cell at R 4.3 in the bedrooms. Eight neutrals hold it together. Wide openings come out as two shades, since 96 inches is the limit.
Privacy
In daylight all three constructions close the window. At night the pale end of this card is the exposed one: White, Satin and Shell behind a lit room show a clear moving shape from outside, while Carbon and Pebble blur it. The room-darkening cell is the one to use where that matters. A top-down bottom-up configuration answers it differently again, opening the sky and keeping the sightline covered.
Glare control
No transmission data is published, so colour is the control you have. Every version removes the direct beam, and the panel then becomes the brightest surface in the room: White and Satin glow hardest on west and south glass, Carbon holds a room down for a television or a desk. Double-cell buys heat performance rather than glare performance. For glare, go darker or go room-darkening.
Limitations
The three constructions do not share one card. Tea appears in the room-darkening version where Satin does not, so a house matching rooms by colour should confirm the shade exists in the version it needs. Nothing here gives a view out, cleaning is dusting and vacuuming only, and 96 inches with no seaming or railroading is what bites on a sliding door.

Is room-darkening the same as blackout?
Nearly. Lutron's room-darkening honeycombs block the light through the fabric; a small amount of light can still enter at the edges of the shade, as with any honeycomb. For a fully dark room see Madrid Blackout or Kyoto Blackout.
How wide can a Lutron Monaco shade be?
Lutron publishes a maximum usable fabric width of 96 inches for Monaco. Wider openings are covered with two shades on one headrail, programmed to move together. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.
