A heavier, textured honeycomb in five soft neutrals

Napa is the premium fabric in Lutron's Honeycomb Essentials: a single-cell light-filtering honeycomb in five colours (White, Shell, Mist, Beige, Truffle), 96 inches wide, PVC-free, white-backed, with a thicker, more textured face than the other Essentials fabrics and a published R-value of 3.4. It sits at the top of Lutron's price scale.

Dusting and vacuuming only; no seams, no railroading. There is no room-darkening version.

Best Use & Limits

What Napa does on your glass, and what it does not

Best use

Napa is the Essentials cell to use where the shade is on show and the insulation is a bonus rather than the brief: a dining room, a stair window, a sitting room with nothing else on the glass. Its face is thicker and more heavily textured than the other Essentials fabrics. It is light-filtering in five colours, so put the bedrooms on something else and keep Napa for the daytime rooms.

Privacy

In daylight all five colourways close the view both ways. At night a lit room behind White, Mist or Shell reads as a shape to anyone outside, and Truffle is the only colour here that hides much of it. There is no room-darkening or blackout Napa, so a bedroom on this fabric needs a second shade in the same opening, and the texture makes no difference to any of that.

Glare control

No transmission figures are published. The thick textured face scatters the direct beam well and the light in the room turns soft and even, which is what the fabric is bought for. The panel then glows, White most and Truffle least, so a television or a desk facing that window wants the darker end of the card. Lutron publishes R 3.4 for the heat, marginally under the plainer Essentials cells.

Limitations

Napa cannot darken a room, and in the highest price band it is an expensive way to buy light-filtering only. Cleaning is dusting and vacuuming, and a raised texture holds dust in a house that runs its doors open. Width stops at 96 inches with no seam and no railroading. For a cell that darkens as well as insulates, look across the honeycomb range.

South Florida

Where Napa works here

Napa is for the living room where a honeycomb was chosen for insulation but has to look like a designer fabric from the sofa: the texture reads as a woven linen. Pair it with a Monaco or Rio room-darkening in the bedrooms if the rest of the house is Essentials.

Good to Know

Napa: frequently asked

Why is Napa's R-value lower than Monaco's?

Lutron publishes R 3.4 for Napa and 3.5 for Monaco single-cell; the difference is small and Napa is chosen for its texture, not for a few tenths of insulation.

How wide can a Lutron Napa shade be?

Lutron publishes a maximum usable fabric width of 96 inches for Napa. Wider openings are covered with two shades on one headrail, programmed to move together. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.

Which Lutron shades use Napa?

Napa is made up on Lutron honeycomb shades. As a certified Lutron dealer in Fort Lauderdale and Miami Beach we order it for any Lutron system it is offered on and install it with our own team.
