A reed-textured weave with the widest light range in the Atelier Collection
Roseau (French for reed) is a 100% polyester Atelier fabric with a fine linear texture, light-filtering at under 5% openness and 116 inches wide. Its thirteen colours run from White, Pearl and Birch through Putty, Dove, Platinum and Chrome to Steel, Pyrite, Concrete, Armour, Bourneville and Jet, and its published visible light transmission runs from 6% in the darkest to 47% in the lightest, the widest span on this page. The light colours glow; the dark ones are close to a room-darkening shade.
Roseau Blackout carries the same colours over an acrylic backing at 0% light transmission with a 83% solar reflectance. Neither version is seamable or railroadable, so the 116-inch width is the maximum single-shade width.
What Roseau does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
Choose the colour by its published transmission, not by the swatch under showroom light. White and Pearl pass 47% of the visible light and suit a north-facing room that has to stay bright. Concrete at 34% is the everyday living-room setting on the water. Steel, Bourneville and Jet, from 11% down to 6%, belong in a media room or a bedroom where the daytime room should read dim.
Privacy
The pale end covers less than people expect. White at 47% visible transmission is bright enough that someone close to the glass registers from a facing balcony in the afternoon. Jet at 6% is the opposite and comes close to darkening the room. Even Jet has a limit after dark, since a lamp set right behind the shade marks the cloth and a body crossing it still reads as movement. The blackout ends that.
Glare control
The published range is wide enough that two Roseau shades can behave like different fabrics. Pyrite at 15% and Dove at 21% keep a living room usable with the sun on the glass. Steel at 11% or Jet at 6% is what a desk monitor or a television needs. White and Pearl at 47% leave a bright panel across the window and a reflection on any screen in the room.
Limitations
A 116-inch opening is the largest single Roseau shade there is, and the cloth takes neither a seam nor a turn, so anything wider becomes two shades with a light line where they meet. Stratus railroads and does not have that limit. Neither Roseau version shows you the view, and the blackout carries a white back in every colour, so a Jet room reads white from the street.

Which Roseau colours work for night privacy?
The dark half of the card. From Steel down to Jet the visible light transmission is low enough that a lit room does not read from outside; the light colours will silhouette and need a blackout or drapery layer behind them for privacy after dark.
How wide can a Lutron Roseau shade be?
Lutron publishes a maximum usable fabric width of 116 inches for Roseau. Wider openings are covered with two shades on one headrail, programmed to move together. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.
