A smooth, satin-faced fabric in eleven colours, with a blackout twin
Satine is the smoothest of the Atelier fabrics: a 100% polyester weave with a soft satin surface, light-filtering at under 2% openness, 108 inches wide, PVC-free and Oeko-Tex certified. The card has eleven colours (White, Snowgum, Cream, Stone, Ash, Silver, Chinchilla, Steel, Cinder, Ironbark, Black), and at about 5 oz per square yard it is one of the lightest fabrics Lutron offers, which shows in how quietly it rolls.
Satine Blackout puts the same face over a flocked acrylic backing for a full blackout in the identical colours. Both are seamable and not railroadable.
The mill: Mermet USA, Cowpens, South Carolina. Satiné is on Mermet USA's Made-in-USA list, woven in Cowpens, South Carolina. It is one of the two mills behind our fabric standard; with direct supply, the same weave is available on Somfy and manual shades, not only on Lutron.
What Satine does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
At 0.018 inches the light-filtering face is thin for a cloth of this weight and rolls to a small diameter, which matters in a shallow pocket or a slim fascia above a wall of glass. Use it in living rooms and studies, where under 2% openness holds the daylight and drops the view. Satine Blackout goes in the bedrooms and the media room, in the matching colour.
Privacy
By day the light-filtering weave covers well in every colour, including White, because at under 2% openness there is almost nothing to see through. After dark that reverses in the usual way, and lit from behind the cloth shows shapes crossing the room. Satine Blackout stops that outright, and its white back means the change is invisible from the street. Light still escapes at the shade edges.
Glare control
The satin face is the thing to watch. It is smoother than the other Atelier weaves, so it returns a low sun as a sheen across the panel rather than scattering it, and in a room with a television that sheen is what you see. Under 2% openness means no direct beam gets past. Ash, Steel, Ironbark and Black hold the panel darkest, while White and Cream glow.
Limitations
A smooth face shows handling, and a light-filtering or blackout cloth arrives with the fold marks of shipping in it. Those hang out over a few days, but they are visible at handover and worth saying in advance. Neither version offers a view. Both stop at 108 inches. Lutron lists no fire rating for Satine, so a hotel or a lobby takes a cloth from the commercial range instead.

Satine is what we suggest when the brief says 'no texture': minimalist Miami Beach and Sunny Isles interiors with plaster walls and lacquer, where a bouclé or a reed weave would fight the architecture. The under-2% openness gives day privacy without a screen look; the blackout twin handles the bedroom.

Does Satine show fingerprints or marks?
Less than a slubbed fabric, and it accepts a damp cloth and spot cleaning per Lutron's care code. Like every fabric shade it should be kept out of reach of wet hands and pets on a lanai.
How wide can a Lutron Satine shade be?
Lutron publishes a maximum usable fabric width of 108 inches for Satine. It can be seamed for wider openings, or two shades share one headrail and move together. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.
