Lutron Austin Fabric
3 colourways, openness <1%, light-filtering, up to 92 inches wide. Every swatch and every specification, from a certified Lutron dealer in Fort Lauderdale and Miami Beach.
Three warm, linen-toned light-filtering colours
Austin is a 100% polyester light-filtering fabric with an acrylic coating, at under 1% openness, 92 inches wide, in three warm colours: Straw, Burlap and Chestnut. It is PVC-free, lead free and RoHS compliant, cleaned by dusting and vacuuming, and is neither seamable nor railroadable, so 92 inches is the single-shade limit.
What Austin does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
Austin exists for one reason, which is three warm colourways for rooms built on wood, rattan and stone rather than white trim. Straw, Burlap and Chestnut are the whole card. Under 1% openness puts it at the dense end of light-filtering, so daylight comes through and the view does not, and at 7.93 oz it hangs with some weight. Use it on punched windows, not on sliders.
Privacy
Under 1% openness covers a room completely in daylight, and the warm mid-tones help after dark: a silhouette reads less sharply through Chestnut than through a white cloth. It still reads. Once the lamps are on, anyone outside sees movement behind the shade in all three colourways. A bedroom needs a blackout behind the Austin, or instead of it if only one shade fits.
Glare control
No transmission figures are published, so judge Austin by density. Under 1% openness stops the direct beam and the room goes even, with no hot patch on a floor or a table. Straw is the palest of the three and lights up most; Chestnut is the one for a west window or a wall a television faces. None of them keeps a low sun off a screen entirely.
Limitations
Austin can be neither seamed nor railroaded, so 92 inches is a hard stop and a slider becomes two shades with a light line between them. Lutron lists no sample for it, so there is no cutting to hang in your own window before you commit. No fire rating is published and cleaning is dusting and vacuuming. Riley is the cool-toned equivalent.

Where Austin works here
Austin is a small card for rooms that want a warm, natural tone rather than a white or grey: a study, a guest room or a breakfast nook in a Coral Gables or Coconut Grove house with wood floors. Where the opening is wider than 92 inches we split into two shades on one headrail.
Austin: frequently asked
Does Austin have a blackout version?
No. For a bedroom, pair it with a blackout in a matching warm neutral, such as Encore in Sand or Canyon, on a dual roller.
How wide can a Lutron Austin shade be?
Lutron publishes a maximum usable fabric width of 92 inches for Austin. Wider openings are covered with two shades on one headrail, programmed to move together. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.
Which Lutron shades use Austin?
Austin is made up on Lutron roller shades. As a certified Lutron dealer in Fort Lauderdale and Miami Beach we order it for any Lutron system it is offered on and install it with our own team.
Is Austin PVC-free?
Yes. Lutron lists every Austin colourway as PVC-free, with Lead Free, RoHS Compliant certifications.
