Sheerweave 4900 is a polyester-core screen (17% polyester, 83% vinyl on polyester) in thirteen colours, each at 1% and 3% openness, 96 inches wide, seamable and railroadable. The colour card mixes solids (Chalk, Tobacco, Flaxen, Birch, Cobblestone, Soft Grey, Ebony, Slate) with two-tone weaves (Chalk/Black, Chalk/Wheat, Pewter/Chalk) and coloured backs in white, grey, black or tan.
It has the highest noise reduction coefficient on this page (up to 0.60), which matters in hard-surfaced rooms; a wall of shades in Sheerweave 4900 takes the edge off a tile-and-glass living room. Fire listings are NFPA 701, CA Title 19 and CAN/ULC-S109.
The mill: Phifer, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Phifer weaves the majority of its SheerWeave roller-shade fabrics in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, with Microban antimicrobial protection and GREENGUARD certification. It is one of the two mills behind our fabric standard; with direct supply, the same weave is available on Somfy and manual shades, not only on Lutron.
What Sheerweave 4900 does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
Hard-surfaced rooms with standard windows, since the roll stops at 96 inches. Chalk throws back 83% of the solar energy that reaches it, which makes it the pick for an unshaded south or west wall where the room still has to feel light. Slate, Tobacco and Ebony suit a study or a den. The back colour, which is what the street sees, is a separate decision from the face.
Privacy
Daytime cover is good across this card, because nothing on it passes more than 10% of the visible light. Chalk/Black at 1% publishes 1%, and from the sidewalk in daylight there is nothing to read. Chalk at 3% publishes 10% and lets shapes register from close up. The dark faces see out best and cover least. Night reverses all of it, so a bedroom wants a layer behind on a dual roller.
Glare control
Strong, and evenly so. With visible transmission between 1% and 10% across all 26 colourways, a monitor or a television is workable behind any of them, and the 1% weaves more so. Slate, Tobacco and Ebony scatter the least light back into the room, which is why we reach for them when a screen faces the glass. None of it removes a low sun sitting square in the window.
Limitations
The roll is 96 inches, so a slider wall becomes two or three shades with a light gap at each joint. There is no tensioned version for a skylight. Slate, Tobacco and Ebony reflect as little as 5% of the sun that hits them, so that heat stays at the glass, where Chalk or Whitesands would send it back. No screen replaces a blackout shade in a bedroom.

Where Sheerweave 4900 works here
We suggest Sheerweave 4900 for the tall, hard rooms that are common in new Miami towers: double-height living areas, open kitchens with stone counters, home offices on video calls all day. At 1% it is a glare fabric, at 3% a view fabric, and either way it quiets the room a little.

Does a solar screen really reduce echo?
A little, and Sheerweave 4900 more than most: its published NRC is up to 0.60, where many screens sit at 0.05 to 0.20. It is not acoustic treatment, but across a full wall of glass the difference is audible.
