Basswoods is the colour card of Lutron's motorized wood blinds: eighteen finishes on basswood slats, from painted whites (Arctic White, Soft White, Antique White) through natural tones (Light Maple, Light Oak, Golden Oak, Cashew, Cherry, Walnut, Dark Walnut, Mahogany, Red Mahogany, English Chestnut, Dark Wenge) to greys and blacks (Mist Grey, Stone Grey, Mink, Black Onyx). Blinds are made up to 108 inches wide, and the slats are PVC-free.
Lutron wood blinds tilt and lift by motor on Triathlon battery power or a wired Sivoia system, with the same Pico, keypad and app control as the shades.
What Basswoods does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
A wood blind answers the window where you want to steer daylight rather than stop it, and where a hard horizontal line suits the architecture: a home office, a den, a library, a guest room on a shaded elevation. Tilt gives every setting between open and shut, which is more control than a fabric shade offers. Eighteen finishes cover paint and stain, and blinds are made to 108 inches wide.
Privacy
Closed slats stop the view along a level sightline, and that is the honest limit of it. From a floor above or from the pavement below, a closed slat still opens a line into the room, so a second-floor neighbour sees more than you expect. The route holes that carry the lift cords stay open at every tilt, and after dark they read from outside as a column of small bright points.
Glare control
Tilt the slats up and daylight goes to the ceiling and returns soft, which is a thing no fabric shade can do. Closed, the direct beam is stopped, but light still enters between the slats and lands as bright bars across a floor or a screen. Pale finishes such as Arctic White bounce more of it back into the room; Dark Walnut and Black Onyx absorb it and stay quieter behind a monitor.
Limitations
Wood and water do not mix. Keep basswood out of bathrooms, laundries and unconditioned porches, and off beachfront glass where salt air and constant sun go to work on a finish. Light and thin slices of view pass at the route holes and between shut slats, so this is not a darkening treatment. Width stops at 108 inches, and an inside mount adds a light gap at each jamb.
