Lutron M Screen Fabric
Woven by Mermet USA in Cowpens, South Carolina. 27 colourways, openness 1%, 3%, 5%, solar screen, up to 120 inches wide. Every swatch and every specification, from a certified Lutron dealer in Fort Lauderdale and Miami Beach.
A quieter neutral palette in 1%, 3% and 5%
M Screen shares E Screen's fiberglass and vinyl construction and 120-inch width but carries a different, softer colour card: White/White, White/Pearl, White/Linen, White/Stone, Pearl/Pearl, Pearl/Linen, Linen/Stone, Charcoal/Grey and Charcoal/Charcoal, each in 1%, 3% and 5%. The Stone and Linen combinations are the reason to look at it: they sit between the bright whites and the greys, and they flatter warm interiors, travertine floors and wood ceilings that a pure white screen can make look cold.
It carries the same certifications as E Screen (GREENGUARD, RoHS, lead free, anti-microbial) and the same NFPA 701 fire listing, so it moves between residential and commercial work without a second spec. One difference to know: M Screen is not railroadable, so very wide openings are made with seams or split into two shades on one headrail.
The mill: Mermet USA, Cowpens, South Carolina. M Screen is on Mermet USA's Made-in-USA list, woven in Cowpens, South Carolina, and is Build America, Buy America compliant. It is one of the two mills behind our fabric standard; with direct supply, the same weave is available on Somfy and manual shades, not only on Lutron.
What M Screen does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
Three openness factors cover a whole floor. Put 1% on the west and south-west glass and in any room with a screen in it, 3% on the water side as the default, 5% where the sun is filtered or the room faces north. Tensioned shades are on the list too, so a skylight over a stair can carry the same weave as the windows beneath it.
Privacy
Daylight cover runs with the colour. White/White at 1% reflects 76% of the solar energy that reaches it and gives a facing balcony very little to read. Charcoal/Charcoal at the same openness reflects 4%, sees out far more clearly and covers correspondingly less. Linen/Stone at 5% passes 18% of the visible light and is the least private thing on the card. None of it holds once the lamps are on.
Glare control
The spread here is wide. Charcoal/Charcoal at 1% publishes 1% visible transmission and takes the sun out of a monitor entirely, while Linen/Stone at 5% publishes 18% and will leave a reflection on a television. The warm mid-tones sit between the two. Pick darker and tighter when glare is the actual complaint. A low sun square in the window still burns through all of them.
Limitations
The pale Stone and Linen weaves scatter light back at you, which can read as a milky panel against a hard bright view; a Pearl or Charcoal face holds the horizon better. It darkens no room, so a bedroom still wants a blackout shade at the glass or behind it. The most open weave here is 5%, so a north room chasing maximum daylight is better served elsewhere.

Where M Screen works here
Coral Gables and Boca Raton interiors with warm stone and wood are where M Screen earns its place. Linen/Stone at 3% on a lanai wall gives a room the look of a woven textile from inside while behaving exactly like a technical screen. On a bright white contemporary condo, E Screen is usually the closer match; when the client says the white shades in the showroom feel too clinical, M Screen is what we bring out next.
M Screen: frequently asked
E Screen or M Screen?
Same performance, different colour cards. E Screen has the widest openness range (0.5% to 10%) and the charcoal KOOLBLACK options; M Screen adds Stone and Linen tones that suit warm interiors. We usually order samples from both for the first appointment.
How wide can a Lutron M Screen shade be?
Lutron publishes a maximum usable fabric width of 120 inches for M Screen. It can be seamed for wider openings, or two shades share one headrail and move together. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.
Which Lutron shades use M Screen?
M Screen is made up on Lutron roller shades and tensioned skylight shades. Colourways approved for tensioned shades can also cover skylights and sloped glass. As a certified Lutron dealer in Fort Lauderdale and Miami Beach we order it for any Lutron system it is offered on and install it with our own team.
Can I see M Screen samples before ordering?
Yes. Lutron makes memo samples of every M Screen colourway on this page; tell us which colours you are considering and we order them from Lutron for your consultation. Both our Fort Lauderdale workroom (by appointment) and our Miami Beach showroom have Lutron shades running so you can see the fabrics in motion.
